Viking  Root Stock

Viking root stock is best for alkaline soils with a pH of between 7 and 8. It is susceptible to iron chlorosis, but less symptoms and better yields were derived when compared to flordaguard and kakamas under similar conditions. Overall, it is highly vigorous and can withstand slightly brackish conditions or free-lime- to a limited degree.

Viking is tolerant of rootknot nematodes, but is highly sensitive to under-watering and can easily dry out at planting.

Most recommended for heavier soil types, where the water table is not too high, as die-back may occur. Despite it's die-back in extended wet conditions, it is still tolerant of periodically wet soil and is resistant to phytopthora cactorum.
